Today was such nice weather in Akureyri this morning. In the low sixties, with few clouds and some wind it was perfect running weather! We left the apartment around noon and went to visit the home of Þorunn’s sister and her sister’s daughter. They had a cute big black dog I was able to pet, making this the fourth day in a row I have been able to pet a dog! Even though I couldn’t understand most of what they were talking about Þorunn was nice and would
inform me every several minutes on what they were talking about.
After the visit was over, we said goodbye to Akureyri and drove from Eyjafjörður to Akranes, passing Skagafjörður along the way. The weather conditons during the drive was so much better visibility today than on Saturday, at least in the northern region (once we got about 1.5 hours from Akranes it started raining and was overcast). It was an amazing to see all the vibrant green grass and moss growing in the valleys and mountains on each side of the fjords. We finally arrived in Akranes at 8:30 pm with one additional stop for lunch/dinner during the drive. It had been a long day and we were all tired and tight from sitting too long. Akranes greeted us with its normal windy, rainy, overcast weather that we were thankful to have not experienced during our trip.
Here are some photos from drive and one of the cute dog of course:
Some traditional turf house buildings with small gardens growing the traditionally grown plants such as rhubard:
Interesting red rock on the side of the riverbed that Þorunn claimed she had never seen something like before in Iceland:
